The FDA has approved apremilast (Otezla) to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis, the agency announced on Friday.
A phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor, apremilast's side effects in clinical trials most often included diarrhea, nausea, and headache. There were also increased reports of depression, relative to placebo. The FDA has mandated the creation of a pregnancy-exposure registry in the postmarketing period.
