Suspected Polio-Like Illness Now Seen in as Many as 25 Kids in California

By the Editors

Health officials in California have identified up to 25 children with suspected polio-like syndrome, according to the American Academy of Neurology. The children had sudden paralysis in one or more limbs, and some experienced respiratory problems. Initially, just five cases were reported over a 1-year period.

Two of the five initial cases tested positive for enterovirus-68, which has been associated with polio-like symptoms.
