Happy 282nd Birthday, George Washington. How's That Cough?

By the Editors

On Monday, the U.S. celebrates Presidents Day, formerly known as Washington's Birthday. As purveyors of medical information, we'll stick with celebrating George — he was such an "interesting case" on so many levels.

He suffered, according to one account, diphtheria, tuberculosis, malaria, smallpox, and dysentery. And he died of a throat infection.

When not fighting microbes, he engaged in other pursuits.

By the way, no issue on Monday.
