Cyclospora Infections Spread to 275 People in Seven States

By Kelly Young

More than 275 people in seven states have been infected with Cyclospora, the CDC reports. Connecticut, Georgia, and New Jersey are the most recent states with confirmed cyclosporiasis infections, but it is not yet clear whether all of the reported cases belong to the same outbreak. Cyclospora is a parasite that produces gastrointestinal illness, particularly diarrhea.

At least 10 people have been hospitalized. Investigators have not identified the source of the infections, but the CDC notes that previous outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce.
