About the NEJM Journal Watch Hospital Medicine Board

Dr. Calderon is the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is actively involved in all aspects of the residency training program. His interests include the use of ultrasound in medicine, simulation (particularly as it relates to procedural training), evidence-based medicine, resident education, and healthcare quality. Dr. Calderon holds a number of leadership positions at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital including Director of Continuing Medical Education, and he is the founder of the hospital’s GME Simulation/Procedural Skills Lab and Co-Chair of the hospital-wide Simulation Committee. He is a member of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine’s Accreditation Committee, as well as its subcommittee on Curricular & Teaching Aspects of Medical Education. He is a graduate of SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, New York, and completed a combined residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Calderon has written for NEJM Journal Watch Hospital Medicine since its inception in 2007.
