About the NEJM Journal Watch Emergency Medicine Board

Ron M. Walls, MD, FRCPC, FAAEM, is Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chair of its Executive Committee. He is the principal investigator of NEAR (the National Emergency Airway Registry) and has investigated strategies for evaluation and care of patients with acute ischemic coronary syndromes. Dr. Walls is Senior Editor of Rosen's Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice (5th through 8th editions), Editor-in-Chief for UpToDate for Emergency Medicine, and has served as a peer reviewer for all the major emergency medicine journals, as well as Anesthesia, JAMA, and the New England Journal of Medicine. A noted leader and educator in emergency medicine, he has been honored with awards from the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society for Academic Emergency, and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Walls was Editor-in-Chief of NEJM Journal Watch Emergency Medicine from the publication's launch in 1997 through 2014.
