M. Brian Fennerty, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland. Dr. Fennerty received his MD from Creighton University in Nebraska and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.

The current Editor-in-Chief of NEJM Journal Watch Gastroenterology and Associate Editor of Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Dr. Fennerty was a founding editor of Reviews in Gastroenterological Disorders and Journal of Medicine as well as past Associate Editor of American Journal of Gastroenterology and Clinical Perspectives in Gastroenterology. He has also served on the editorial boards of numerous professional publications, including Archives of Internal Medicine, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Evidence-Based Gastroenterology.

Dr. Fennerty is a past member of and current consultant to the FDA Advisory Panel on Gastrointestinal and Urological Devices as well as past Chair of the Imaging and Advanced Technology section of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Research Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). Dr. Fennerty has also served as Councilor, Secretary, and President of the ASGE and is a member of the Gastroenterology Committee of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), for which he continues to chair the Gastroenterology Self-Evaluation Program Committee.
