Dr. Fleischmann is a cardiologist whose major research interests include development and evaluation of efficient diagnostic and treatment strategies in acute ischemic syndromes, use of noninvasive testing (especially echocardiography) in cardiology and its relation to outcomes, and implementation of evidence-based practice in cardiology. She served as Vice-Chair of the Research Committee for the American Society for Echocardiography and has chaired or participated in teaching CME courses such as Heart Disease in Women and Advances in Geriatric Cardiology at UCSF. She also serves on national guideline committees sponsored by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association and has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Fleischmann has been writing for NEJM Journal Watch General Medicine since 2001.
